What does this have to do with music?
Fast-forward a number of months. I'm watching Lady Gaga through the same store window on possibly the same wide-screen TV. I've heard her sing, but I didn't know she was also a pianist. The problem is that I can't quite get past the image of a woman playing the piano while (not entirely) dressed in what I can only describe as a spangled bikini.
Call me old-fashioned, but I liked the good old days when a song-and-dance man was a song-and-dance man.

I saw a post on Facebook months ago showing a picture of Sinatra and the lyrics from one of his songs. Such amazing poetry.
And underneath it a picture of Bieber and lyrincs from one of his songs: Oh baby, oh baby, want you baby, etc.
Western culture is quickly sinking down in intellectual sinkhole.
To be fair, let's distinguish between "popular" culture and the more-traditional version(s). Fortunately, people are still composing operas, choreographing ballets, writing poetry and non-fiction (and even some decent fiction). But some of the current offerings on television . . . Whatever happened to family-friendly TV? I agree, Garnel, that some aspects of the so-called "good old days" really were better.
